Not much frightens me, but I must admit that, even as an investigative writer who covered the heated, racially charged Presidential Primaries of 2008, this radical religious “thing” that is slowly emerging from the bottom of the roiling cauldron of this year’s Mid-Term Election, has me fearing for us, for our country and for our children. Yes, the deficit is abhorrent. Unemployment has risen to 9.6%. Hamid Karzai should replace Tony Soprano. Obama’s base ran away from home,… took the cat and The Republicans that in 2004 managed to inspire our allies to regard Americans as electoral “idiots,” this year have finally succeeded in making “stupid” chic! I get it! However, as we stab and jab at one another over who did what to create The U.S. toxic “fecalade frappe,” the Puritan re-invention of America, of our Constitution and of our very history, is at the mid-point of its completion.
For five years now, maybe more, the annual Values Voters Summit, an auspicious event sponsored by the Christian Far Right, replete with Republican and Tea-Party Neo-Conservatives, has become the place where the architects of The American THEOCRACY converge to assess their project’s progress; to set objectives for the coming year; to agree on the strategies that may achieve them; to purchase soldiers and coerce compliance; to identify and slander common enemies and to select the “regime’s” leadership. It is a place to "see and be seen;" the gathering where all good, White Neo-Cons go to pledge allegiance to Sarah Palin and Jim DeMint. Unwavering loyalty, accompanied by visible devotion to militant Tea-Party values, seem to be the required protocol expected so as to be embraced into the bosom of the NEW Republican Party. It is those anointed, chosen few, who are endorsed and heavily funded, allowing them to then climb the GOP's new Theo-political "Stairway to Heaven." Some attendees, like Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Mike Pence, Rick Santorum, Jim DeMint and Gary Bauer, leave the conclave speaking of the pursuit of moral supremacy in cautious, “non-socially alarming” rhetoric. Others, like Michele Bachmann and Christine O’Donnell, leave sounding more extreme than when they first arrived. Still others, like Mike Huckabee, openly call for the "Godly" rewriting of the Constitution. We call them “nut-jobs,””wing nuts,” and dismiss them. I fully believe that this is a terrible, terrible mistake. There are dark and very real reasons why the Far Right / Tea Party candidates and their “anointer,” have made radicalized statements and assumed emboldened EXTREMIST postures, throughout this campaign, WITH IMPUNITY. In fact, a mere two years’ ago, any of these behaviors would have been instantaneously terminal to the electability of any candidate that comported themselves in such manners; but not this year.
Let's look back. Sarah Palin was found GUILTY of abuse of power by a bi-partisan commission in 2008, while still Governor of Alaska. Two years later, and only halfway through her term as Governor, she reneged on her promise to her electorate and simply said SEE-YA'!… and begun the “anointing” of "the chosen." A few weeks ago, the character of her public figure was made patent by her lambasting of Michael Joseph Gross, the author of the troublesome Vanity Fair article, Sarah Palin: The Sound and the Fury. A few days later, during a radio interview with Sean Hannity, she referred to Gross as a “limp, impotent, coward.” Many in the blogosphere have since wondered “How she would know that?”
Jim DeMint lectured on how “openly gay people and young women that sleep with their boyfriends, should not be allowed to teach in Public Schools.”
Sharron Angle was secretly recorded peddling her smoky-back-room influence that she referred to as “having “juice” with DeMint.” In a debate with her Senatorial campaign opponent, Harry Reid, Angle announced that, if elected, “it wouldn't be her job to create jobs.” At one campaign rally, she bellowed that, basically, she didn’t give a damn about maternity-leave and autistic kids being covered by Health Care Reform. Today, we learn that Sharron Angle decries and demonizes divorce.
Christine O’Donnell made her debut to America with what looked like the beginning of The War on Masturbation. Mice with fully functioning human brains soon followed, along with Christine's possible proficiency at broom-travel. Hey, it has to be like riding a bicycle!
Paladino and Meg Whitman are a political train-wreck and will be cannon-fodder for comedians for years to come.
Rand Paul’s goons curb-stomped an activist’s head and “dead Jiminy Cricket” look-alike, Mitch McConnell, told a beleaguered nation experiencing record levels of poverty and locked in two wars, that, other than ensuring that Barack Obama did not see re-election in 2012, the plan, moving forward, is …that there is no plan.
You may have noticed as well, that a record number of neo-conservative candidates, while in the midst of this crucial election, have simply chosen to remove themselves from media accessibility. Like Angle and O’Donnell, if they are not allowed to provide reporters or pundits with the questions that they want to be asked, or, if they are not advised, in advance, of the specific questions that moderators intend to ask them “live”, they simply refuse to “air” themselves. The enigma is that most of these singular Republicans are leading in their individual Mid-Term races. Even more bewildering, is the fact that traditionally Democratic "Women" Voters, whose rights would be in significant peril under a Conservative House of Representatives, are, today, favoring The Republican Party by 4 points in a CBS poll.
As Carl Rove (lovingly renamed "Turd-Blossom" by Keith Olbermann) and The U.S. Chamber of Commerce shamelessly purchase this election, the cultural and Constitutional pillar that is the concept of Separation of Church and State, is being challenged from the far right as in no previous time in modern history. In Texas, The State Board of Education (SBOE) has succeeded in wedging legislation that requires that the publishers of state-approved Social Studies textbooks re-define the very thoughts and intent of Constitutional author and American icon, Thomas Jefferson. To Justify the re-writing of the 1st Amendment, the ranting Conservative Christian members of the Board that have been in support of the measure, have been quick to point out that the actual phrase, "Separation of Church and State," is absent from the wording of the amendment itself. Not the brightest of Constitutional scholars, they have responded with mindless belligerence when confronted with Jefferson's 1802 letter to The Danbury Baptist Association, where his intent, at the time of penning the measure, is rendered unquestionable by the even more graphic phrase, a "WALL of separation between church and state". True to their new "reality-optional" view of America, High School History books, in Texas, will now contain a 1st Amendment that does NOT feature Freedom of Religion as we know it, or the Separation of Church and State as a benchmark. Rather, the new, and conservatively "improved" verbiage will decree that there need not be Freedom FROM Religion. This shift to a NEW interpretation of the document is an absolute imperative for Newt Gingrich's conversion of an entire nation.
In planning for the immediate future, "The Christian Mafia" (as they jokingly refer to themselves) has had no problem advising America that it plans to repeal Roe vs. Wade, starting with the deployment of Amendment 62, Personhood, strategically placed on Colorado's November ballot this year. This Amendment grants full Constitutional Rights to a woman’s egg from the very moment that it is fertilized. It also attempts to ban ALL methods of non-barrier birth control. Now, during any other election year, at least in my lifetime, this collection of living, breathing political satires would have spelled doom for the Republican Party as a whole; and yet, even as polls confirm that Americans assign culpability to The GOP for bringing about the cataclysmic recession, it is The GOP that leads in almost every House poll. They will, at the very least, re-take control of The House of Representatives on November 2nd.
So, how does the average "Joe" sift through the avalanche of "he-said / she saids" that over-runs the media in the midst of an election campaign such as this one? It's easier than you may think but, by no means, apparent. You see, throughout history, the effective subjugation of a people has always required that they first be kept fearful and ignorant. Once this is attained, the manipulator (a legitimate "leader's" evil twin) can then present him or herself as the anointed "savior." As the process unfolds, the observant citizen will always be able to pick out the TRUE LEADER from the verifiable manipulator. Having spent decades observing both of these phenomena, I discovered that the MANIPULATOR will fight ALL to appear to be right. The LEADER will fight FOR ALL and FOR ALL THAT IS RIGHT. This is supported by the consummate leader's awareness of an enigmatic fact. POWER, untempered by wisdom and compassion, defines TYRANNY.
There is an escalating THREE tier process involved in a government's transition from a Constitutional Democracy to a Totalitarian Theocracy. There is a middle tier of development between these two and it MUST be achieved in order to complete the process. If on November 3rd, we awaken to a Republican House and/or Senate, it is a definitive indicator that we have reverted back into it. You might recall that in November of 2008, our allies and THE WORLD joyously observed as we pulled ourselves back from that middle tier...a POPULAR IDIOCRACY.
Now that Sarah Palin has implied her running in 2012 with a speculative strategy that is said to involve NY Mayor, Michael Bloomberg running as an Independent, America is on course to hearing two extremely disturbing words; “President Palin” and with those words, the emergence and debut of the world’s newest fundamentalist nation.
